Why so many Kerala families believe it
The improvement is real, and that's exactly what makes the conclusion tempting. It reads the trend forward as if it will simply continue.
What's actually true
Improvement curves flatten, and the flattening usually begins right where the easily-coached part of the syllabus ends. A rising line proves preparation is working; it says nothing about where it stops. The useful question is not 'is he improving?' but 'what is he improving at?' If the recent gains came from the straightforward, high-yield topics, the next year's gains — from the harder, less coachable material — may be much smaller.
So a six-month rise can be genuine and still not predict the extra distance one more year would cover. The trend is information about the past, not a guarantee about the ceiling.
What to do instead
Before committing to another year, look at where the improvement is coming from, not just that it exists. If the easy gains are banked and the remaining gap is in the hard, less-coachable topics, be realistic about how much a year will add — and decide with a firm limit, not on the momentum of a rising line.
