Sainik Schools offer disciplined, residential education and a strong pathway towards the National Defence Academy. Entry is through the All India Sainik School Entrance Exam (AISSEE), which is competitive — so early, guided preparation matters.
Eligibility
- Class 6 admission: the child should be in the eligible age band (usually 10–12 years)

- Check the official AISSEE notification each year for exact age limits and the application window
Exam pattern at a glance
The Class 6 paper covers Mathematics (the largest section), Language (English & the regional language), Intelligence/General Knowledge. The Class 9 paper additionally includes Science and Social Science. There is usually no negative marking, but the maths section carries the most weight.
How to prepare

- Practise intelligence/reasoning questions, which schools don't teach
- Solve previous-year papers and full-length timed mocks weekly
- Improve reading comprehension and basic grammar

Eligibility and classes of entry
Admission to Sainik Schools is through the All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination (AISSEE), conducted by the NTA. Entry is mainly into Class 6 and Class 9, and girls are now admitted as well.
- Class 6: typically age 10–12 years on the cut-off date
- Class 9: typically age 13–15 years
- Open to both boys and girls
- Reservation norms apply as per the notification
Exam pattern and what comes after
For Class 6, the AISSEE paper (OMR-based) covers Mathematics, General Knowledge, Language and Intelligence. The Class 9 paper adds Science, Social Science and English at a higher level. Clearing the written exam is only the first step — selected candidates must also pass a medical examination and an e-counselling stage before admission is confirmed. Strong, timed practice in Maths and Intelligence usually makes the biggest difference.
